A Fortaleza de Santo Amaro da Barra Grande completa 441 anos de existência nesta quarta-feira (24). O equipamento, que é reconhecido como Patrimônio Histórico Nacional pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), conta com um rico acervo que remete à história da Cidade. O equipamento é administrado pela Prefeitura de Guarujá.
Em 2020, a Administração Municipal recebeu permissão da Secretaria do Patrimônio da União (SPU) para gerir o equipamento durante 20 anos – em consonância com o Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Histórico (Condephaat) e o Iphan.
Localizada entre a Praia do Góes e a Praia de Santa Cruz dos Navegantes, a fortaleza foi construída com objetivo de defender o Porto contra o ataque de invasores. Na fortificação, funciona o primeiro museu histórico da Cidade, que tem como objetivo resgatar a identidade e a memória da população guarujaense.

A Fortaleza da Barra concorre ao título de Patrimônio Cultural da Humanidade pela Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (Unesco), para integrar o Conjunto de Fortificações do Brasil, representando o Estado de São Paulo.

A visitação acontece de terça a sexta-feira, das 9 às 17 horas; aos sábados, das 10 às 16 horas; e, aos domingos, das 9 às 15 horas. Para o agendamento de visitas e outras informações, basta ligar no telefone (13) 3384-6194.

Para quem está em Guarujá, o acesso é pela Estrada Santa Cruz dos Navegantes, na Rua Messias Borges, 380 – entre a Praia do Góes e Praia de Santa Cruz dos Navegantes. Vindo de Santos, é possível pegar as barcas que partem da ponte Edgar Perdigão, na Ponta da Praia.
